Rosanna Filmer- Steen
Director
I’ve been working in events full-time since 2018, starting out alongside my dad, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. Before events, I worked for two years in airport security, where I loved the fast-paced challenge of threat detection. Before that, I spent two years photographing equestrian events like Hickstead, Bolesworth, and South of England - my first taste of what it was like to be part of a live event environment.
I’ve been lucky enough to experience some unforgettable moments, like meeting Her Majesty the Queen at London Fashion Week, helping Taste of London become one of the first major live events to return post-Covid, and managing the restaurants that brought so much joy to people just being back out again. And then there are the more hands-on memories, like building a roundabout at Countryfile Live with nothing but a spade and a golf buggy!
What I love most about events is the people, the buzz of meeting new faces, hearing their stories, and working together to pull off something that once seemed impossible. There’s nothing quite like the team spirit on-site or the moment everything finally clicks into place.
Outside of work, I’m completely in love with Ronald, my Welsh Section B pony (who even came to my wedding), and his younger half-brother Basil. I also have Diego, my brilliant German Shepherd, who’s a regular feature in most of my conversations. When I’m home, you’ll usually find me helping my mum with the family’s Welsh Section B stud, especially during foaling season.
Some of the things I’m really proud of outside of events include running the Great North Run in 2024, walking part of the Great Wall of China in 2018, and winning a photography award after a trip to Borneo that ended up getting me featured in local newspapers and radio.
But honestly, what I’m most proud of is getting to work with my family every day. Working with my dad, my husband, and soon my sister-in-law isn’t just a job, it’s something really special. We’re a hard-working, close-knit team who genuinely care, not just about the work, but about doing it together. It’s a rare thing, and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of it.

I’ve been working in the events industry for the past five years. My background is a little different—I started out as a car mechanic before moving into IT with the NHS, and later managed a motorcycle exhaust manufacturing workshop, overseeing production, distribution, and its online presence for five years. Those experiences gave me a strong foundation in problem-solving, technical systems, and operations, which I now bring into the world of live events.
In events, I’ve taken on roles such as Health & Safety Manager for numerous exhibitions, Trader Manager for Taste of London and Big Feastival with IMG, and more recently, I rolled out a site-wide Wi-Fi system for the Royal Windsor Flower Show in 2025. I particularly enjoy applying my IT knowledge to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and develop systems that help events run more smoothly for everyone involved.
One of the best parts of working in this industry is the balance it gives us as a family business. When we’re onsite, we work hard and give everything to the event, but we also make sure to prioritise family time and create space for making memories. I work alongside my wife, Rosie, and while people often ask how we manage working together, the truth is that we complement each other’s strengths—it works because we respect the balance of roles (and yes, I let her think she’s the boss!).
Outside of work, I’m passionate about motorcycles and racing—I’ve been riding since I was three years old, the same year my parents first put me on skis. I’ve had the chance to ride track days in Spain alongside current Moto3 and Moto2 world champions, which is something I’ll never forget. At home, I can often be found with my Whippet, Pumba, who once inspired me to attempt a dog clothing business (an idea Rosie wisely kept from getting too out of hand).

Tim Filmer
Health & Safety Specialist and Consultant
I’ve been in events since 1980, starting out as Transport and Trade Stand Manager at the South of England Country Show, a role I landed simply by stepping forward when everyone else stepped back. It was a crash course in people skills, from helping Mr & Mrs Smith find their lost car in 200 acres of parking, to sorting out a sponsor’s stand that was eight metres too small, to calming the chaos of an escaped bull in the flower marquee. By the end of the show, I was exhausted but hooked. I loved every moment!

Before events, I trained as a farmer, arboriculturalist, and wine trader, later working as a safety manager for high-rise window cleaning rigs. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to work on some incredible projects: Health & Safety Consultant for the RHS at the Chelsea Flower Show, F1 H&S Manager in the UAE and Russia, supporting Top Gear in the UK, South Africa, and Barbados, and working with the British Fashion Council on London Fashion Week and the Fashion Awards.

For me, events are all about people: those who create them, those who support them, and those who attend. I’m never happier than when surrounded by my four-legged friends who are always excellent listeners, and I firmly believe events aren’t just my job - they’re my life!

I’ve been in the events world for three years now, with two of those at Select. Before transitioning full time into events, I worked in the hospitality sector for many years, gaining skills that have no doubt helped me in event world, with fast paced environments to problem solving and connecting with all kinds of people. My introduction to events was as an Assistant Manager running wedding parties, wakes, christenings and birthday parties. I then took on freelance roles, my favourite was being part of the events team for The Fashion Awards with the British Fashion Council. I’m now fortunate to work with family, which has given me the opportunity to experience a wide range of events, from trade shows to festivals- there’s never a dull moment! My favourite part of events is seeing the finished product and the joy it brings visitors. I also love the people I work with, they make any problem feel easy to solve! It truly takes a team to bring an event to life!

Outside work, I love painting and drawing, mostly in oils. Animals are a favourite subject, so many of my paintings feature my dogs or other pets. To keep a healthy mind, I stay active in the gym, and I cherish spending time with family, friends and my beloved cockapoo, who I’m always happy to show photos of as I have an abundance of them!

A fun fact about me is that I’ve done a bit of travelling, visiting countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. I’ve also hiked mountains and active volcanoes in Costa Rica and Nicaragua as part of World Challenge, where we built a concrete step path for children to walk down from their homes to reach their local school in an small village in Nicaragua. The experience was incredibly rewarding and really made me appreciate what we have here and what we can achieve.

I’ve been in the events industry for over 30 years, after previously working in motorcycle sport for the governing body. I spent just over 10 years at the NEC, where one of my favourite projects was working with an organiser to get approvals for a large motorsport activity and display in one of the big halls - a really fascinating challenge. I also helped run one of the largest IT shows with over 80 complex stands. I’ve been with Select since 2000, and it’s been an incredible journey ever since!

A fun fact about me is that I got to meet many of the biggest bands of the 80s before they hit it big. I worked in a large nightclub that had an amazing booker and scout, so I got backstage with the likes of Duran Duran, Wham, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, and Ultravox.

In my spare time, I volunteer for an animal charity, which is something close to my heart.
